Pitches, flood work and council jobs across West Cumbria

John Elliot Ltd has built a large network of clients along with a reputation for quality work at a competitive price. Here is some of that work.

Sports pitches we have drained and built

All works are undertaken by our experienced team using our own purpose built plant and equipment.

Cockermouth School

2005 to 2007

Six new grass football pitches, 3 adult and 3 mini soccer, on land to the east of the school made available by the Leconfield Estate with support from Lady Egremont.

Work commenced in 2005, the pitches were available for play in September 2006, and Peter Beardsley MBE joined pupils, guests and John and Mark Elliot for the official opening in October 2007.

The £1/2 Million project was funded by the school with a £326,969 grant from the Football Foundation and support from the Cumberland FA, and came in under budget and ahead of time.

Seaton Amateur Rugby League Club

2010

Over the last 20 years a number of attempts had been made to rectify the water on the Seaton Rangers ARLFC pitch with little or no success. After a successful grant application in January 2010, the club appointed John Elliot Limited.

The drainage was funded through Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust and the Foundation for Sport and the Arts. The pitch was ready to play at the beginning of the season, and stayed playable through a particularly wet period that followed.

The club has 2 open age sides and junior sides from U8s to U16s, around 500 members in total, and the pitch is also used by the school and other local groups.

Grasslot Welfare Sports & Social Club

Glasson Industrial Estate

We constructed a sports field playing surface out of a disused plot of land littered with broken glass, timber, bricks, blocks, tarmac and assorted paraphernalia.

The job was completed on time and on budget, and the pitch now caters for two open age teams and four junior teams. It can be viewed from the car park next to Solway Park on the Glasson Industrial Estate.

“These are excellent new pitches which will provide people in the Cockermouth area with a professional standard of playing surface.”

Flood work, roads, walls and bridges

  • Workington Bowling Club

Following the devastating floods of November 2009, the access road to the club was almost destroyed and impassable to all vehicles. We responded within 48 hours and made the road to the club passable for contractors.

  • Allerdale Borough Council

Finding and fixing the cause of flooding in Dearham, carried out quickly and thoroughly in a confined space and difficult circumstances; longstanding work delivering sandbags to flood victims throughout the Borough at all times of the day and night; and constructing a “vandal proof” footbridge in Harrington, with difficult access and a very tight timescale to suit the long reach crane.

  • Harrington Marina

Clearing out the Marina at Harrington in Summer 2016, one of the projects we have carried out with local councils.

  • St Luke's Parochial Church Council

Building the new church wall at the entrance to St Lukes.

  • T Glendinning & Co Ltd

A customer who has traded with John Elliot Ltd for twenty five years.
